Event #2 Results

Here's the results from Event #2 held today at MI-40 Pond

The Gaff Masters, with a combined creel of $159.97 led all teams at MI-40. Tim's 48 fish worth $138.25 led all individual anglers and teams on a day that was less than ideal fishing. With the outstanding day, the Gaff Masters managed to pull within $38.15 of the tournament leading Carp Pros, who put together a respectable 49 fish, $106.99 creel. The 'Turds and Poles were able to stay within striking distance of the leaders, but savvy observers noted that the Poles were beginning to click at the end of the day and may be a force in coming events.

Event #1 Results

The weather broke, the sun came out and a full contingent of anglers made an appearance at Event #1 at Shull's Hole. When the horn sounded at 12:45 the combined total of the 14 anglers was 391 fish for a creel value of $759.17.

Despite a strong start by the Bass Turds who staked out their honey hole, the powerhouse known as the Carp Pros (your three time defending champions) were able to rally to a $40 lead, considered by many very tentuous heading into Event #2 at MI-40, the home waters of the 'Turds. Also showing mid-season form was the Gaff Masters, led by Tim's 51 fish showing eveyone why they are the odds on favorite to mount a challenge to the Bass Turds for the second place position. The revitalized Bass Poles managed a respectable showing and seem in position to move up in the standings once the bugs are worked out of the system. Pancho and Lefty struggled in thier rookie outing and longtime followers of the Tournament know that when Niehoff the puppet master see the results it's likely that the duo will have many points t0 gather in the far corners of the Lab. Some think that the ever volitale Niehoff may yank his starters and go with the RJN boys in Event #2. Stay tuned for the fireworks on Monday. The two Ops teams made a fine rookie appearance at the event with the Bass Busters leading all teams with the highest average value per fish with $2.40, and it's obvious to many observers that these teams hold potential. The real test comes in Event #2 when the Tournament moves to the big waters of Main Injector.

Stats and Records:

  • First Fish: Ron (Bass Turds)
  • Most Fish: 71 - Steve (Carp Pros)
  • Highest Creel Value: $122.46 - Merle (Carp Pros)
  • Highest Average Fish Value: $2.40 - Bass Busters
  • Worst Experience with Gear: (tie) Chuck (Bass Poles) and Gerry (Pancho & Lefty)

2007 Tournament Rules

As a refresher for the veterans and an introduction for the rookies, here's a the rules and regulations for the 2007 Tournament

  1. Fishing is for a total of one (1) hour which begins and ends with an official sounding horn. Those caught fishing outside of these times will be subject to a severe beating or training session on the correct installation of silt fence.

  2. Teams consist of two (2) members. Rankings are based on the combined "creel" value of both team members. Creel values are based on the length and quantity of fish caught.

  3. Fish values are determined by the length of the fish. The fish length corresponds to a color on the official measuring device (see photo above). The length of each slot if based on a vast amount of statistical data on fish conditions and growth patterns for the northeastern Illinois freshwater fishery as taken from reliable sources. For example, if you catch a 4" fish that corresponds to a "Black" slot. (see previous post for color to slot values) A black slot is worth $1.81. This $1.81 is added to your creel total. If you catch two "black" slotted fish, your creel increases by $3.62.

  4. The creel values accumulate every event and the team with the highest creel value at then end of six events is the winner and has bragging rights for a year.

  5. You may have your fish measured when you catch them or, preferably, bring a bucket and collect a number of fish for measurement at one time.

  6. There is a weekly bonus of $5.00 for the person who successfully lands the first fish. You must signal this first fish with a shout of "Hee Haw" in order to attract the Tournament Commissioner and have the fish measured.

  7. The Commissioner has sole discretion concerning the official length and reporting. There is a appeal process that involves bleach, olive oil, a toilet brush and an adolenscent wolverine in the event that you feel your fish was measured incorrectly. Appeals must be submitted in writing (old English font only) on LEED certified parchment.

  8. The entry fee is $10.00 per person ($20.00 per team). The funds are used to purchase pizza and trophies for the end-of-year crowning of the Carp Pros as 2007 Tournament Champions (or anyone else who dare challenge them).
